Conscious Connected Breathwork is a powerful practice that uses continuous, circular breathing to access altered states of consciousness and facilitate deep emotional, physical, and spiritual release. Through sustained rhythmic breathing, we can bypass the thinking mind and access deeper layers of experience—allowing what’s held in the body to surface and move.
This isn’t passive relaxation breathing. It’s an active, dynamic practice that can bring up intense sensations, emotions, and sometimes profound insights or expanded states. The breath becomes a gateway to self-discovery and healing that goes beyond what words can reach.
What Happens in a Session
In individual or group breathwork sessions, we create a safe, held container for:
The Breathing Practice
A specific breathing pattern—full, connected breaths without pauses—sustained for 30-60 minutes. This altered breathing chemistry shifts your state of consciousness, often bringing suppressed emotions, memories, or energies to the surface.
Somatic Release
As you breathe, you may experience tingling, temperature changes, muscle tension, or emotional waves. We work with these sensations rather than trying to control them, allowing the body’s natural releasing process to unfold.
Music and Support
Carefully selected music supports the journey’s arc—activating, holding, and finally integrating. In one-to-one sessions, I’m present throughout, offering grounding, encouragement, and touch (with consent) when helpful.
Integration
After the active breathing, there’s time to rest, settle, and begin making sense of what emerged. We talk through your experience and explore how to work with what arose in the days that follow.
What Breathwork Can Open
Conscious Connected Breathwork may be beneficial if you:
- Feel emotionally stuck or numb and want to access deeper feeling
- Are drawn to non-ordinary states and expanded consciousness
- Want to work with difficult emotions or past experiences somatically
- Seek a practice that can catalyse insight and transformation
- Are interested in exploring the edges of your experience in a safe container
Important Considerations
Breathwork is powerful medicine and isn’t suitable for everyone. It’s contraindicated if you have:
- Cardiovascular issues (including high blood pressure)
- History of psychosis or severe psychiatric conditions
- Are pregnant
- Have severe asthma or respiratory conditions
- History of seizures
We’ll discuss your medical history and current circumstances before beginning to ensure breathwork is safe and appropriate for you.
The Tradition
Conscious Connected Breathwork draws on various lineages including Holotropic Breathwork (developed by Stanislav Grof), Rebirthing, and other circular breathing traditions. While techniques vary, all work with the principle that conscious breathing can facilitate access to non-ordinary states and support deep healing.
If you’re interested in exploring breathwork, get in touch to discuss whether it’s a good fit for you. Sessions are available individually or in small group settings.
